Hill and Mountain Skills courses in Snowdonia, the Peak District and the South Downs

HillSkills is run by qualified mountain leaders Mal Creasey and Barry Lynn. Together they offer the Mountain Training-accredited Hill Skills and Mountain Skills courses.

Starting out in countryside walking and looking to find out the basics? Then the Hill Skills course is for you.

The Mountain Skills course is for walkers with some experience who want to progress into mountain environments.

We also offer mountain guiding and pre-expedition training in North Wales.

Hill Skills courses

Get started in countryside walking

No experience of hill walking is required to attend the Hill Skills course: it's aimed at beginners. If you do have some experience of hill walking but aren't confident about planning walks, navigating and understanding the equipment required, then this course is an ideal way to get started.

Our Mountain Skills course is aimed at experienced hill-walkers who want to move into more mountainous terrain: learn about the differences in weather, navigation and managing risk in mountain vs hill environments.

Guided Mountain Days

If you're new to walking and want to be guided through some of Snowdonia's famously stunning scenery, whilst picking up some essential skills on the way, then our guided weekend walking course is for you.

Pre-Expedition Training

Or if you're going to the Alps for some trekking, we've designed a two-day programme to fine tune the skills you need out there, from navigation and route planning to using huts, bivouac skills and access issues.
